INMM Seeks Awards Committee Chair

Awards Oversight Committee Chair – Position Description

The Awards Oversight Committee is responsible for developing and providing formal guidance to the members of the INMM concerning the Awards and Recognition Program. This includes but is not limited to developing policy for determining the awards, reviewing nominations for compliance, collecting and corroborating information, and ultimately recommending qualified candidates to the EC through the INMM President. Shortly after the first of the calendar year, the INMM Headquarters and the Awards Committee Chair issue a call for nominations. The appropriate awards subcommittee studies the information provided by the sponsor, requesting more data or clarification if necessary. When recommendations are ready, they are submitted to the INMM President through the Awards Oversight Committee Chair. At times, the members of the EC will request more information or clarification regarding a nominee. After the EC reaches agreement, the President notifies the Awards Oversight Committee Chair who notifies the appropriate contacts for developing the citations and preparing the award plaques.

The Awards Oversight Committee includes two subcommittees: the Meritorious Service Award and Distinguished Service Award Subcommittee and the Special Recognition Subcommittee.

This committee obtains funding from other than the regular INMM budgeting process. INMM members and friends of the Institute may make contributions to the fund at any time. Contributions made in memory of deceased Institute members, friends, or family members, or others who have made contributions to the field of nuclear materials management are recognized in the JNMM or in appropriate form at the INMM Annual Meeting. To donate to, or establish, an award or recognition, contact the Awards Oversight Chair or INMM Headquarters.

The Chair of the Awards Oversight Committee represents the Committee before the INMM Executive Committee (EC), initiates Committee business and sets its agenda, organizes the Committee, and provides leadership. The Chair is appointed by and serves the EC.

The Chair provides a written summary report of status and recent activities to the EC three times per year; the July report is included in the INMM report to the membership. The Chair is expected to attend the scheduled meetings of the EC in March, July, and November of each year. The Chair works closely with INMM Headquarters and serves in a critical advisory capacity, including by supporting INMM strategic planning objectives related to awards. The Committee works closely with other units of INMM, including its Chapters and Technical Divisions.

Primary Duties:

  • Attend INMM Executive Committee Meetings to represent Awards Oversight Committee (three per year).
  • Provide recommendations to the EC for award nominees.
